The flower is said to at Orange Coast College, a community college situated 62 kilometers south of Los Angeles.

The flower is reported to be taking almost a decade to make its first bloom which only lasts for 24 to 48 hours. After which they can bloom every 3 to 4 years. The pungent odor is produced during the pollination process. It weighs over 30 pounds and stands five feet tall.


Due to its strange characters, the college is expecting scores of admirers on June 28, as the flower is supposed to bloom. The Amorphophallus titanium plant which has its origin on an Indonesian island, Sumatra, will be on display from to 6 p.m and will remain open for viewers until 10 p.m after its blooming, the magazine highlighted.


In 2014, Little John, a flower of the same species as the one above, attracted over 1000 visitors who visited the college to get a glimpse of the wonder. For this reason, visitors are encouraged to make a small donation of $3 towards supporting the college’s horticultural program.
