He says that television is a “wild force,” and so is the internet. “Television, in particular, is an evolving beast.” People can turn on the news and see it evolving day by day. People can say they watch the information online, but they watch it on TV just like they used to. Randy says that technology had encouraged news coverage in a very different way than it did when he started his career. He says personal computers and new digital cameras have made television entertainment coverage accessible. In the early 1990s, Randy says, news coverage was very different because “people were watching a lot of mainstream, boring news.” Compared to today’s programming, people are watching more niche programming. He believes that TV should be more like the internet. Television shouldn’t just be a source of information, but it should also be entertainment.

Randy discusses his work as the director of the reality TV series “Judge Judy.” He says that when people think of reality TV, they think of the drama it creates. He thinks a “real” courtroom show is appealing because it’s like watching a reality show about lawyers. In Randy’s opinion, Judge Judy is a good judge because she behaves like an actual judge. She is wise and doesn’t let any of her emotions cloud her judgment.
