In the three years since Alex A Molinaroli retired from his post as CEO of Johnson Controls, he’s become one of the most vocal advocates for sustainability and renewable energy in business. Molinaroli has been a driving force in developing Johnson Controls’ sustainability strategy. Under his leadership, the company became one of the world’s largest providers of energy-efficient building management systems and services. Molinaroli was also an early advocate for incorporating renewable energy into corporate portfolios. Now, Alex A Molinaroli uses his experience and expertise to help other businesses become more sustainable. He’s the founding chairman of the board of directors at Renewable Energy Trust (RET), a Chicago-based nonprofit that helps businesses and institutions finance the transition to clean energy. RET has provided more than $100 million in financing for solar, wind, and energy efficiency projects in the Midwest, and it has helped to create more than 1,500 jobs in the region.

Molinaroli is also a member of the advisory board of Sustainable Capital Advisors (SCA), a financial services firm that specializes in sustainable and impacts investing. SCA has raised more than $1.5 billion for renewable energy, water, and sustainable agriculture projects worldwide.

In addition to his work in the clean-energy sector, Alex A Molinaroli is also a vocal supporter of women’s entrepreneurship. He’s the founding chairman of the Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC) board of directors, a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides training, consulting, and financing to women-owned businesses. WBDC has helped more than 10,000 women start and grow their businesses, and it has created more than $500 million in economic activity in the Chicago area.

Molinaroli has also been involved in educating the next generation of business leaders. He’s a member of the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) board of directors, where he helped launch the MSOE Center for Sustainable Enterprise.
