Amy’s Kitchen (Amy’s) is a family-owned company started in 1987 by Andy and Rachel Berliner in their farmhouse kitchen intending to make easy meals that are enjoyable and healthy. They believed they could make people taste the love if they cared about what they did and who they cooked for and to their surprise they received the love back. Amy’s is so close to their hearts that they named the company after their newborn daughter with their first product being a vegetable pot pie with a flaky, home-style crust. The company now has a workforce of over 2,600 amazing people who produce hundreds of thousands of meals per day.
Amy’s Kitchen has become a favorite among vegan shoppers worldwide because of its inclusive recipes, in which they avoid using ingredients such as meat, fish, peanuts, shellfish, or eggs. The menu includes more than 100 gluten-free, 120 vegan, and dozens of Kosher products. Some of the foods you can find at Amy’s include but are not limited to macaroni & cheese, organic vegan bean & cheese burrito, cheese pizza, and gluten-free rice mac & cheese.
Chief Culinary Officer Fred Scarpulla is quoted saying “When customers choose Amy’s Kitchen they can count on the best ingredients.” A survey by Amy’s Kitchen revealed that fifty-six percent of American adults are turning to vegan diets and plant-based meals because of these three reasons: desire for environmental preservation; taste preference; and to create healthier diets.
Amy’s understands that their company has a responsibility to play in the community and larger ecosystem and for that reason, they will purchase renewable energy from Ørsted’s Sunflower Wind Farm in Marion County, Kansas. This power purchase agreement is the first of its kind and will power 30 percent of the company’s operations with the company aiming to be fully powered with renewable electricity by the year 2030. The initial purchase will generate about 250,000 MWh of renewable power annually leading the way for other companies to follow in the sustainability course.
