John Hailer grew up in Detroit, Michigan. There, he created comics with friends, and they would sell their comics at local festivals. He is the CEO of Natixis Global Asset Management. He is known for his philanthropy and for donating different kinds of art to various charities. In 2014, he donated over 60 pieces of art to the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. In the early 1980s, he joined the Hunton and Williams law firm in Washington, D.C., where he worked until 1984. He then became the president and general counsel of a company called CLX Group, a consulting firm that dealt with international business transactions on behalf of multinationals. This company was purchased by Bain & Company in 1998, where he stayed until 2001, when he left to help start his own investment management company. Currently, he is the CEO of Natixis Global Asset Management.

He receives the William J. Clinton Foundation Humanitarian Award for his donations to various charities that help people in need in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Ghana. He was also named one of Washingtonian Magazine’s Best and Brightest in 1993, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004. He won the Best CEO award from Philadelphia Banker Magazine in 2007.
