Doug Haynes is one of the most well-respected management consultants in the world. He has worked with some of the biggest companies and organizations and is currently a board member or advisor for several leading organizations. Doug is also heavily involved in philanthropy, using his expertise to help those who need it most. We had the privilege of interviewing Doug about his work, experiences, and advice for aspiring consultants.
Doug has worked with some of the biggest names in business, including Goldman Sachs, Barclays Capital, Citigroup, and JPMorgan Chase. He also held senior management positions at The Carlyle Group and Morgan Stanley before founding Council Advisors in 2009. Doug was recognized for his expertise by being elected to the board of directors of The Committee For Economic Development and The Partnership for New York City.
Alongside his corporate work, Doug is heavily involved in philanthropic causes. In 2020 he served on the Board of Overseers for Brooklyn Community Services, a non-profit organization that seeks to help disadvantaged communities. Additionally, he serves as a trustee for the American Museum Of Natural History and sits on the Business Advisory Council for United Way of New York City.
When asked what he wished someone had told him when starting as a consultant, Doug replied: “I wish I’d been warned about some of the unique situations and challenges that arise in consulting. It’s important to be prepared for anything and take into account any potential pitfalls before taking on a project. Additionally, I would tell anyone considering this field to stay up-to-date on emerging trends and technologies, as they can be instrumental when helping clients solve their problems.”
Another thing Dough wish he had learned before beginning his consulting career is the importance of taking risks. “You must be willing to take chances and innovate to stay competitive,” he said.
Doug Haynes has been a significant force in the consulting world for over two decades, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. With his knowledge, experience, and commitment to giving back to communities in need, Doug will continue making a positive impact on businesses and organizations worldwide.
